3 Big Invisalign Mistakes that Everyone Makes
As with any new routine, you’re bound to make a few beginner mistakes. If you’re beginning Invisalign, that’s most certainly the case. It’s completely new and it can be hard to remember all there is to do — we’re here to help!
3 Invisalign Mistakes to Avoid
1. Throwing Trays Away
Let’s say you are out to eat with your friends and you forget your aligners container at home. You have to eat, so you place your aligners on a napkin by your food. But without realizing it, you place that same napkin on the food you’re about to throw away.
This happens to more patients than you would think. This is why we suggest carrying a few ziplock bags in your purse, backpack, or in your car. This will help eliminate the risk of throwing your aligners away because you’ll always have a safe place to keep them.
2. Leaving Trays Out for too Long
In order for your treatment to work — you have to wear your aligners for at least 20 – 22 hours every day. That leaves you with around 2 to 4 hours to plan out when you’re going to take out your aligners. While you may feel like taking them out to sip on your morning cup of joe, we advise against it. Save the time for when you’re eating lunch or dinner or playing contact sports.
3. Forgetting to Clean Aligners
Our mouths are filled with bacteria — both good and bad. And it’s only natural for some of that bacteria to attach to your Invisalign aligners. This is why it’s imperative to brush and floss your teeth regularly, as well as cleaning your aligners. Soak your trays in mouthwash for a half hour and rinse clean before placing them back in your mouth.
