What is Preventative Dentistry?

We specialize in preventative dentistry at Fairfield Dental Arts. Some people are not familiar with the term preventative dentistry. Preventive dentistry is the practice of caring for your teeth and keeping them healthy for a lifetime. Below are some ways you can practice preventative dentistry.

Visit Your Dentist Twice a Year
The American Dental Association recommends going to the dentist twice a year. If there is something awry with your dental health, we can nip it in the bud. Cavities, gingivitis, enamel loss and periodontitis can be prevented or lessened with proper dental care.

Proper Home Dental Care
After you’ve had a dental checkup at Fairfield Dental Arts, it is up to you to keep your pearly whites in tip top shape. You can do this by brushing teeth twice a day and flossing once a day. Using mouthwash on a daily basis can keep the bacteria in your mouth under control. Practicing good dental hygiene at home can also prevent plaque build up.

A Balanced Diet
Maintaining good overall health will bolster good dental health. This includes eating a balanced diet. If you eat foods filled with sugar, plaque can plague your teeth. Eating a diet that is deficient in calcium puts you at a higher risk for gum disease. You can avoid both of these scenarios by eating a healthy and balanced diet.

At Fairfield Dental Arts we have caring and gentle dental hygienists who will help you prevent dental problems with regular cleanings. Call 203-254-3780 to schedule an appointment.
