When Should Your Child Get Braces?
For many teens, orthodontic braces are just another right of passage. As permanent teeth start to grow in, your child may experience overcrowding or spacing issues with their teeth. But how do you know when it’s time to finally schedule an orthodontic consultation?
There is no set age for when a child should schedule their first orthodontic visit. Some kids go when they’re as young as six, while others go when they’re in their late teens. Later still — many adults opt to get braces later on in their life.
However, as a general rule of thumb, your child should visit the orthodontist when their permanent teeth start growing in and the dentist can tell if there are any overcrowding or uneven tooth growth issues.
When in doubt – ask your dentist.
Your dentist will be able to give you an idea of when your child should schedule an orthodontic visit. During an exam, we can see how the permanent teeth are growing in and whether or not there may be crowding issues. At Fairfield Dental Arts, we have an orthodontist on staff!
