How To Handle Dental Emergencies Involving Children
No one plans to have a dental emergency. This can be a particularly stressful situation; especially if it happens to one of your children. Below are some tips to help you handle a dental emergency properly. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Toothaches
Clean around the irritated area. Use warm salt water to rinse the mouth. Do
not use aspirin on the tooth or gum. Instead, take acetaminophen for
temporary pain relief. Apply a cold compress to the area. If pain and
discomfort continue, seek dental attention.
Cracked Tooth
Rinse the mouth with warm water. This will help clean the area. Put a cold
compress on the facial area to suppress swelling. Recover any broken
tooth fragments and seek dental attention immediately.
Knocked Out Tooth
Hold the tooth by the top and not the root end. Rinse the tooth. Put the tooth back in the socket and hold it in place using a clean piece of gauze. If the tooth cannot be reinserted, carry it in a cup with milk or water. Since time is of the essence, call Fairfield Dental Arts as soon as possible.
