Different Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth. Did you know that dental implants are not created equal? There are two different types of dental implants. Keep reading to learn about the differences between the two.

Endosteal Dental Implants

With endosteal dental implants, two surgeries are needed. In the first procedure, the implant is inserted into the jawbone. A second procedure can be completed when the surrounding tissue heals. In the second procedure, an artificial tooth is secured to the dental implant.

Subperiosteal Implants

During the subperiosteal implant procedure, a metal frame is attached to the jawbone right underneath the gum tissue. Once the gums heal, the frame settles into the jawbone. Last but certainly not least, posts are fitted to the frame and then artificial teeth are put on the posts.
